Ever since I tried Studio DIY’s flower drying tutorial – I CANNOT STOP DRYING FLOWERS. I originally dried the flowers for my mom from her garden so she could have a piece of her garden in her room while she recovered from an injury. I dried the flowers and made her layout the flowers and leaves how she preferred. Then I made this butterfly banner for the kitchen + Hue’s window. Now I have enough left over dried flowers and botanicals I think I am going to frame some. It would be nice to have some of my parent’s garden in my home too… It is just such an easy tutorial that I keep drying more flowers + botanicals from my parent’s garden!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

dried flowers +botanicals (I use this easy DIY)

paper towels

a heavy microwaveable flat container (I used a glass rectangle container ran it under water to cool it when I was done + used an oven mitt to handle it when checking the dried flowers + botanicals)

contact paper

butterfly template (or whatever shape you want!)

scissors

whole puncher

string

tape

DIRECTIONS:

First things first, after you pick your flowers and botanicals go check out Kelly’s tutorial of Studio DIY here.

Once, you have your dried flowers then you are ready to go. Lay out your contact paper – a big enough size to do at least 5 cutouts of your butterfly template, more if you want. Depends on how big your window is or how big you need your banner to be. I found 5 butterfly great for both kitchen + bedroom windows. Only bring up the paper of the contact paper up half way, lay out all your dried flowers + botanicals, then release the rest of the paper and carefully fold it over the dried flowers + botanicals. Try to make it as smooth as possible without any air bubble but if you have some it’s not the end of the world.

You are ready for your butterfly template. Trace the outer edges of your template directly onto the contact paper. Cut out the butterfly shape.

Once you have all your butterfly shapes cut out, punch a whole at the top. I did two in the top/middle in the kitchen window and 4 in the bedroom window banner. I like how the two whole punch lays better on the string. I do have some clear tape supporting the outer edges of the butterfly shape to the string.

String your butterfly shapes and hang! Enjoy!
