My husband and I hang on to cars for FOREVER. We really aren’t big car people. As long as the car gets us from where we need to go we are fine with that! Plus we really love the no car payment thing – it’s really a nice pressure off our shoulders. I got this car when I was 25 years old. I had just moved back from a one-year stay in Dallas, Texas and it was the first time I bought the car with my own money and I paid if off like a year or two early! I really thought I was a super grown up when I did that! We kept it just shy of 15 years. We finally upgraded this car for my husband to a Subaru Outlander, which he loves. We had gotten rid of his Kia about 4 years earlier and we upgraded to a Subaru Forester then, which I love. We are a total Subaru family now!

So we racked out brains trying to figure out what to do with this car. It was in great shape just old. Then I remembered my little sister didn’t have a car. This is a manual car and it seems few people know how to drive stick these days so we had to teach her the basics in a deserted parking lot a few months back on a Sunday. Then the Friday before Easter we drove up north to Alameda, after a half day of work, me in the new Subaru Outlander and my husband behind me in the Scion Xa and dropped it off at my sister’s home. She couldn’t be happier to not have to rely on public transportation any more. She is still learning the ways of being a stick driver but she is on her way to being just fine.

Some fun facts about this car:

When I first got this car I was living with my parents to save up to move back out and I remember receiving this license plate in the mail. It roughly translates to Five Horn Devil. I thought about changing it and then decided to just embrace it. I just figured someone had a really fun time designing it and maybe it might just scare the right people off! I thought it was funny. From time to time a friend would point it out but I always thought it was kind of amusing.

The color of this car is called “black-cherry” which is an awesome name for a color of a car.

Scion is no longer in existence but this car is!

This car served me through many different times of my life. As a server at a restaurant, a student, a graphic designer, a single lady – turned wife!

To many more years to this old car!
