Here is Hue’s nursery. We have officially lived in this condo for two full years. For the first year this room was a joint office for my husband and I. When we found out we were pregnant we knew this would become the nursery so out with the office stuff and in with the baby stuff. It was not an easy task moving our desks to other areas of the condo. We had made our desks to fit our office space so when we moved them to their new, smaller spaces we had to cut down the wood to make the desks fit their new designated spots. This meant buying a circular saw and cutting the desk tops over a weekend by ourselves. Our desktops are butcher block counter tops from Ikea and our regular wood store wouldn’t cut down butcher block so that is why we had to do it ourselves. The great news is that now we can cut wood into straight lines whenever we want!
Hue was born December 2nd 2018 but his due date was Thanksgiving day November 22nd. His room was just ready in time for his original due date. I had some custom pieces I wanted to make for his room which I finished the week of his original due date. Here is a post on how I made all the custom pieces.
I loved how his nursery came out! It is such a special room and I know it will grow with him. It has so much love in there. All those books were given to us at the baby shower or through family and friends, so they are all super special and I have already started reading to Hue. One of my nieces is a huge reader and I hope Hue loves books as much as she does. Her mom, (my sister), started reading to her from the very beginning so I am following suit. That cute green sweater with the animal ears is from grandma and grandpa. Everything was hand picked out with care.
Here are some before pictures. Below is what the room looked like when we first checked this condo out before we bought it. Believe it or not, the condo we bought was the best contender out of the places we saw.
Yes, there is popcorn ceilings which was one of the first things to go. I had to do a lot of imagining in my head when walking through.
The very first thing we did when we got the keys was remove the popcorn ceilings and painted everything white. We had about two weeks in our old place so not only were we fixing up our new condo all on our own with the help of some very good friends but we were also packing up our one bedroom apartment and garage with 14 years of accumulating things. All the walls were a beige color which made the walls look dirty, painting everything white including the ceilings helped the whole home feel fresh. We added recessed lighting while we were making this a nursery for Hue. Below is the after shot of the same room / same angle:
For a very short while this was a joint office and my side looked like this:
But now it is all for Hue. He turned four weeks old on Sunday (two days ago on the day I am writing this) and he still sleeps in a bassinet in our room. Soon he will be sleeping in this crib and it won’t just be the cat’s resting spot.
The wallpaper is on one wall only and a VERY good friend put it up for me while I was super pregnant with Hue. I love how it came out. It helps make it feel really magical in there. You can see the tutorial on how to make the baby mobile here. The room feels nice and cozy in there which is super helpful especially in the wee hours of the night when we are sleep walking in there.
I know this room will grow and change as rapidly as Hue is. We have already added a rug, a round pouf and a basket for all of his stuffed animals! Looking forward to the future and all the changes to come!
